X-post from the Livejournal:

So Memorial Day weekend.

I'm doing something good, and so can you. Whether you're for or against the war, you should still send some support to the men and women over there. They're away from home and fighting whether they want to be or not.

You can go to www.anysoldier.com to get mailing addresses for random soldiers in Iraq and also a list of things they want/need (cookies, soap, etc.). The most requested item, incidentally, are letters. Which cost practically nothing to send.

There are a bunch of single men and women there who aren't getting much or any mail/packages, so it would just be a nice thing to do to brighten their day. I'm sure they could use it.

So, go buy a pack of Oreos or some soap and toothpaste, pop in a letter or card and participate in a (somewhat) random act of kindness.

P.S. -- The USPS will send any packages to soldiers overseas priority mail at priority rates -- so you won't get charged some crazy amount to send it to Iraq. Oh, and if you do decided to send something other than a letter, read the website to see what the restrictions and tips are. Apparently, sending cookies and soap in the same package result in soap flavored cookies. Which cannot be pleasant.

Happy Memorial Day (Weekend)!
